One More War to Fight with Stephen A. Goldman

I’m back!! Yup, after a three-year hiatus The Rogue Historian is back and I have to say I am pretty excited. To kick things off right I invited Dr. Stephen A. Goldman on the show to discuss his book, One More War to Fight: Union Veterans’ Battle for Equality through Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and the Lost Cause. If you haven’t read it yet, you absolutely should - get your copy HERE.

Anyway….Steve and I discuss all sorts of things including what drew him to study Union veterans, his work as a psychiatrist and how that gives him unique insight into the psyche of those who have experienced combat, and Union veterans’ commitment to equality for black people long after the war. I especially appreciated his views on American Exceptionalism (my current topic of research) and how 19th century men took it to heart - thy found real meaning in the Republic.

I am always looking to discuss history with people from all different walks of life who can offer new and interesting ideas to the conversation. Steve does not disappoint, and I am sure you will, as I did find this conversation riveting. We even get a few words in about motion pictures…it seems we are both film buffs! Who knew?

Have a listen…

You can also listen (and watch!!) on YouTube…and please be sure to subscribe to the channel while you’re there.

Please be sure to follow the show on Apple Podcasts or Spotify or wherever you listen to such things. There’s lots more on deck and I am certain you are going to dig it!

With compliments,

Keith
