Pro Tips from the Pros

Greetings, high school history students! On some of the usual social media suspects, especially Insta and TikTok, I’ve been sharing some practical tips for crafting excellent history essays. I think you will find it particularly helpful to extract insights from a seasoned historian and teacher, so here’s a way to get some advice for navigating the intricacies of historical writing.

Good writing shouldn’t be what separates you from the good grade, so I think taking note of my years of training and experience is a worthwhile endeavor.

Historical writing extends beyond recounting events; it involves interpreting the past and providing clear argumentation for your reader. My goal is to provide practical advice on syntax, clarity, grammar, turns of phrase, and even citation guidelines. I hope to help aspiring historians develop the skills necessary to excel not just at learning the material, but being able to express that knowledge in a clear and concise way.

My thoughts here: listening to the time-tested wisdom of a grizzled veteran. Let my experience help you prevent making all the mistakes I made in high school.

I implore you to follow me on Instagram and TikTok. And….dig even deeper into the craft with my book, Mastering the Past, which offers more comprehensive advice to elevate your essays. Follow, engage, and amplify your skills!

With compliments,
Keith
