Prison Pens - The Web Component

Greetings all! Of course you know that I have been hard at work editing, annotating, and providing commentary for the Civil War Letters of Henry A. Allen. This project has now far eclipsed my original idea about simply recording the letters and relating them in podcast form. If you enjoy the series, please allow me to direct you to another project that fits well with the Allen letters.

If you recall, a while back I reviewed Timothy Williams and Evan Kutzler’s Prison Pens: Gender, Memory, and Imprisonment in the Writings of Mollie Scollay and Wash Nelson. Well…what you might not know is that the book has a companion WEBSITE. The site features a timeline, interactive maps, lesson plans (which link back to the Allen letters…HUZZAH!!), and a good deal of additional information about Ciivl War era prisons.

For those of you interested in the Civil War prison experience, the book and site are a must. Check it, my friends :)

With compliments,

Keith
